Tooth Colored Fillings
For when you need a cavity filled, Laguna Pavilion Dental offers tooth colored fillings to blend in seamlessly with your smile.
If you’ve experienced tooth decay and need a cavity filled, you might hesitate at the idea of getting silver amalgam fillings. Not only are these fillings noticeable in the mouth, but some patients have concerns about the use of metals in these fillings. Tooth colored fillings are a popular alternative to silver amalgam fillings and can allow those with cavities to maintain their beautiful smile.
At Laguna Pavilion Dental, we accommodate our patients’ need to repair tooth decay with tooth colored fillings made from composite resin. Composite resin is a blend of synthetic resin and silica or glass particles that matches your natural tooth color.
Advantages of Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth colored fillings require less preparation than other types of fillings, which ultimately means you’ll get to retain more of your natural tooth structure during the filling process. Since these composite fillings also match your natural teeth, there’s no need to worry about the unsightly dark amalgam fillings to disrupt the cohesive appearance of your smile.
Composite fillings also allow for improved bonding to the tooth structure, meaning there’s less of a chance that gaps will open as the restoration wears over time, which could lead to decay underneath a filling. Composite resin also doesn’t contain any type of heavy metal or mercury, which some patients prefer to avoid when it comes to a filling material.
How Are Composite Fillings Applied?
Getting a filling with composite resin is a lot like getting any other type of filling. Typically only local anesthesia is needed, and Dr. Sattout will remove any decayed or infected areas of your tooth. The tooth is then thoroughly cleaned and dried to support the bonding process between your tooth and the filling material.
Once the procedure is done, you’ll be able to return to your normal activities, although you will need to avoid eating until the numbness from the anesthesia wears off, which typically only takes about an hour. If you have any questions or concerns about the procedure, you can discuss them with Dr. Sattout during your appointment!
